A 7-year-old girl presented with acute vulval erythema and pustules,associated with a petechial eruption in her flexures and over herfeet. There was a mild prodromal illness and the patient was afebrile. There were minimal symptoms associated with the rash. Skin and throatswabs were negative and blood examination showed mild neutrophilia and lymphopaenia. Parvovirus B19 IgM was detected on serology andcutaneous features resolved within 4 days. This is a further case of parvovirus B19 infection presenting as a 'bathing trunk' exanthem that has unique dermatologic features, including the presence of pustulesand distant petechiae.

Parvovirus B19 is a common human infection worldwide and a number of dermatologic manifestations have been described. The best known ofthese is erythema infectiosum, or fifth disease, which classicallyoccurs with childhood infection.1 Papular-purpuric gloves and sockssyndrome has also been associated with parvovirus B19.2 Among the unusual cutaneous presentations of parvovirus B19, an exanthem with anexclusively genital distribution has recently been described.3 Wereport a further case of childhood parvovirus B19 infection presenting as genital erythema, with additional dermatologic features.
